Homemade Play Dough without cream of tartar

In this quarantine time keeping kids engaged all the time is the toughest job because, kids easily get bored of everything around them but, we can’t get new toys forever right so, we need a better option to handle this situation. Play doughs are one of the favorite playtimes for kids. They may prefer to play with them forever.

Playdough activities are also good for kid's mental development, which helps to enhances fine motor skills, creativity, imagination, coordination skills development, and best of all it adds a calming effect on kids when they are bored. Even it can be a great stress buster for elders too. Even though it is less expensive, it won’t be available all the time when we need one at home.

Instead of ordering and waiting to get them delivered. We can easily make at home with simple ingredients, this way we don’t need to be worried about the toxic content in the store-bought play dough. It's really simple to prepare them. If we store them in an airtight container it will be good to use at least a week.

Before this method, I have tried a few other options using vinegar and all that, I am not satisfied with the results. But this works fine for me it is simple, yet worth it. Here, I am going to show two different variations to add color to your dough. We are having a great time with ours and wish the same for you guys as well.

So, let us get started with the recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

1. All-Purpose Flour          -1cup.

2. Salt                                  -1/4cup.

3. Lemon Juice                    -3table spoon or juice of half a lemon.

4. Vegetable oil                    -1tsp.

5. Water                                -3/4cup.

6. Food Color                      -Anything available at home.

7. Broken Crayons(optional)-As required.

METHOD:

1. Heat a pan add water, lemon juice, and oil to it, switch off the stove when the mixer is about to boil. We don't need boiling water.

2. Add salt and flour to the prepared mixer and combine well till it forms a dough. If required we can add oil to avoid dough sticking to the pan.

3. Once it cooled down a bit, divide them into small portions to add different colors.

4. Now you can add liquid food color or powder food color to your dough and kneed them thoroughly to get an even color.

(Or)

1. Instead of using food color, we can reuse the broken crayons in it.

2. For that take a waste vessel or a regular pan and heat them by adding single color broken crayon pieces to it. Or have some fun by adding one or more colors together to form a unique color of your own.

3. Let it melt completely and add prepared though to it and combine well.

5. Knead the dough until color got evenly spread and feel free to add oil if you feel the dough is sticky. That is all our homemade playdough is ready to get some shapes.

NOTE:

1. You can adjust the consistency of the dough by increasing or decreasing the water, according to your preference.
2. This is dough lasted for more than 15 days when I stored in an airtight container and I guess it will be fine after that too but that's is the max I was able to keep away from my kids😉.
3. No need to keep in the fridge.
4. Since I had a waste pan I used it. Hope you guys won't bother.
